Shan MillerBorn in Redruth, Cornwall, Shan studied art at North Devon College and attended various 'Life Drawing' groups, also participating as a model for Exeter University and the Aaron Foundation. Her work encompasses primitive and classical styles, depicting a wide range of subject material. The paintings, mainly on wooden panels and canvas vary in size from just 6" (15cm) to a huge 8' (2.4 mtr). Influences for her work include the old masters, for their lifesize portrayals and their strength and vibrancy, rural matters, such as farming and local characters and modern figurative painters. Shan also delights in working with stage scenery and prop design and circus themes. Exhibitions2007 New greeting card range - a series of paintings of rural characters looking for romance. Featured in West Country media - card available nationwide. 2006Exhibition in the Loft Studio, Taddiport, Devon of various works. 2005The Plough, Torrington open exhibition, with new works themed along the Stage and Screen idea. 2004Equestrian exhibition in Hatherleigh, Devon. 2003Bath and West and Royal Cornwall shows touring 'A Celebration of the Farmyard - Life after foot and mouth' ending up in the Burton Gallery, Bideford. 2002NFU/Royal Agricultural Society sponsored exhibition 'A Celebration of the Farmyard - Life after foot and mouth' at the Salar Gallery, Hatherleigh, Devon. The exhibition will then tour throughout the Southwest of England including the Royal Show. 2001North Devon Arts Group - exhibition at the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe. 2000 Travelling millennium exhibition - '2000, all I've ever done' - various locations. 1999'Characters of Torrington' and 'Stage and Screen' depicting portraits, the latter being from the world of entertainment. Held at The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington, Devon; The Queen's Theatre, Barnstaple and the Landmark Theatre, Ilfracombe. Shan exhibits and sells her work throughout the UK and overseas, and was selected to take part in a show at the Radar Gallery in Washington, USA. There are also private collections in the Philippines and Germany. Shan was instrumental in the setting up of the Women's Rural Workshop in April 2001, and undertook the restoration of the Victorian Bathing Pool in Torrington, which featured in Country Living.
